To be a wise builder, the Word of God is required. But first of all, understanding your purpose in life can make all the difference in building a solid foundation with the Word. The Bible mentioned much about the right and solid foundation, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone. That means the right foundation is located in Christ. More below!
Reference: 1st Corinthians 3:10-11 New International Version (NIV)
"By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ."
One of the reasons for the problems inherent in some people's lives is the absence of a deep and firm foundation; and that is the Word of God. Everything we do as God's own people should have its root in the Word of God.
In this new year, always check the foundation of whatever you do or whatever you want to do. Is it based on the Word? Does it really have a solid foundation? The great and magnificent buildings we see in big cities all around the world were not built on a sand or carelessly established. The builders took their time and laid very deep and strong foundations. However once in a while, you may come across buildings that are shallow, because they have no strong foundations.
Why is foundation very important? A foundation always determines how successful anyone will be in whatever they get involved. There should always be a right foundation for the structure you want to build and this is applicable to every area of life. Is it about your career, ministry, business, finances, family, relationships and so on? You should endeavour to build on a solid foundation. What is a solid foundation in this regard? Our referenced Scripture has the answer: "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ."
Apostle was given the mandate to present the foundation as a spiritual illumination from the standpoint of its in depth analysis, meaning that we can explore the aspects of the foundation in toto, although it is an unfathomable mystery. To that effect, Colossians 1:25-26 reads, "I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord's people" (NIV). Did you notice that the foundation can be presented as a written text? By commission, God gave Paul the stewardship to present to the saints in Colossae, an ancient city of Phrygia in Asia Minor, the word of God in its fullness.
How would the written text serve as their right foundation? The text would be taught by apostle Paul, and as he taught it, they would hear the words and put them into practice. Once the text was taught and heard, it would translate to a foundation within them, which is Christ reflecting that foundation, and then the saints would be rooted and grounded in Him as the foundation. Got it?
Zero wonder Luke 6:47-49 says, "As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete"(NIV).
Once the saints are rooted and grounded, no amount of heavy flood or torrential force can damage the surface of the foundation on the inside. Stay tuned for the expository structure of this topic, coming in successive parts. Shalom!
