DIVINE WISDOM AND SUPREME UNDERSTANDING - PART 6

SATURDAY 05 APRIL 2025

Reference: Proverbs 3:13-14 New Living Translation (NLT)

"Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold."

The next level of wisdom to be expounded by my humble self in today's article is known as Phronesis (Practical wisdom).

Phronésis is properly defined as wisdom or understanding that involves practical insight, expressive of sharp powers of judgement and prudence. It is the ability to discern the right course of action in any given situation, by accurately assessing the situation, and combining both intellectual and moral perspectives, to turn it to one's advantage. The term is often associated with the capacity to make sound judgments and to act on the right decisions based on Sophia and Sunesis.

To clarify this verity from the standpoint of information available in our versified reference, Sophia is the theoretical wisdom that makes you aware of the great value of gaining wisdom and its rewarding worth. Sunesis is the mental understanding that makes you analyze and declare what your course of action need to be, while Phronesis is the force that causes you to act on the Sophia and Sunesis you've gained as mental excellence.

However the Greek word, "Phronimos" is a person who possesses Phronesis, which is good judgment, wise decisions and practical wisdom, denoting that the person is always mindful of acting on the Sophia and Sunesis they've gained. They are practically wise, intelligent and prudent because they demonstrate wisdom and precise discernment particularly in spiritual or moral matters. In a nutshell, a "Phronimos" readily gains accurate understanding of the mind of Christ, and he eagerly functions accordingly by taking wise actions. To instantiate this verity from a Biblical truths stance, Matthew 2:1-2 reads,

"Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him" (NKJV).

This above Scriptural passage specifically mentioned about wise men, and the Greek word for "wise" here is "phronimos." They were (phronimos). As wise men (Phronimos), they discovered or found a star (Sophia), and discerned the Lord's star in the East, by gaining the understanding of what the star represented (Sunesis) and next, they actively made wise decisions to go and worship Him (Phronesis). Who did they go to worship? The personification or birthed embodiment of wisdom. Who birthed the "He" personification of wisdom? A "She" mystery, and I'll shed light on this revelatory insight in the next article.

Beloved, joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. Johannine literature numbered as John 1:14 reads, "The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth" (NKJV). In this particular versified statement, the phrasal adjective, "full of truth" aims to signify the nature of truth the Incarnate Word was full of: The truth is emblematic of absolute wisdom and divine knowledge, and they were surplus in Christ without measure. The unlimited completeness and absolute abundance of divine wisdom and knowledge are "tabernacled" in Him. To that effect, Pauline epistolary expression numbered as Colossians 2:3 reads, "In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (NLT). Stay tuned for part 7. Shalom!
